Legacy Telemetry Documentation
A plant runs on a serial network installed fifteen years ago. The drawings are incomplete or missing. The integrator who built it has been acquired, or the person who understood it retired. It works — until it does not, and then nobody knows where to start.
What we produce
- A map of what is actually installed, verified against the hardware rather than against old drawings
- Devices within the agreed scope: address, role, protocol and firmware where readable
- Physical topology — segments, terminations, cable routes where accessible
- What each device depends on, and what depends on it
- Obsolescence exposure: what is no longer supported or sourceable
- Observed error rates and marginal behaviour, measured rather than assumed
- A prioritized list of what needs attention now and what can wait
A foundation for modernization
Modernization may be the right next step. A verified map of the existing system helps your team and integrator decide what to replace, what to retain and how to stage the work.
Often it is not affordable this year, and the plant needs the existing system to keep working while a staged plan is put together. You cannot plan a migration for a system nobody has documented.
This assessment gives you the map first. What you do with it — stabilize, stage, or replace — becomes a decision your maintenance team, integrator and management can make from the same evidence.
Scope and deliverables
- Project scope
- Defined around the number of devices, network segments, available records and site access. We prepare a quote after reviewing your requirements.
- Typical duration
- One to three days on site, plus analysis and documentation. We agree the report delivery date and travel arrangements in the written scope.
- Deliverable
- A written assessment with device inventory, topology, dependencies, measured error rates, obsolescence exposure and prioritized recommendations.
- Good trigger points
- An acquisition, an obsolescence deadline, a modernization decision, a retiring maintenance lead, or a recurring fault nobody can localize.
- Not included
- Regulated electrical installation work, PLC program modification, and hardware supply. Where corrective work requires a licensed trade, we coordinate.
